Character Relationship Chart Template: Story Cast & Factions
A character relationship chart for a whole story cast shows the shape of the conflict: who is on which side, who holds each group together, and who stands between them. This template starts with two groups and one character caught in the middle.
What's in this template
Mira Sol and Joss Adler are on one side: Mira trusts Joss, and Joss sees Mira as a friend. Petra Wyn and Hal Kemp are on the other: Petra trusts Hal, and Hal sees Petra as family. Across the divide, Mira sees Petra as a rival and Petra dislikes Mira. Noor Vale stands between the groups, counting Mira as a friend and not knowing Petra. That is five characters and eight arrows.
Who it's for
It suits novelists and screenwriters outlining an ensemble, game masters mapping NPC factions for a campaign, and worldbuilders who want loyalties and rivalries visible before drafting. It works for any cast with sides: a royal court, a crew, rival schools or two families.
How to make your own in 3 steps
- Set up the sides. Open the template, rename the characters, and use + Character for anyone new. Drag the cards so each group sits together.
- Connect them. Select a character, click Connect, then click the character the arrow points to. Pick a label like Trust, Family or Rival, or write your own, and click Add connection.
- Add the reverse view. Select an arrow and choose Add [name]'s side to give the other character a separate label. When the cast reads clearly, click Export PNG.
